Disaster Relief for Earthquake Victims in Myanmar

Disaster Relief for Earthquake Victims in Myanmar

Background

A powerful earthquake recently struck central Myanmar, with the hardest-hit areas being Mandalay and the Singkaing Township in the Sagaing Division. The disaster claimed over 3,500 lives and more than 4,700 people were injured and at least 341 are missing, the military government said. The earthquake left many communities in urgent need of help. Amid widespread destruction and minimal government assistance, local believers have begun responding with practical aid and spiritual encouragement. This project seeks to support those efforts by combining emergency relief with the life-giving message of the Gospel.

Purpose

The aim of this project is twofold:

  1. To bring practical help—food, clean water, shelter, and basic medical supplies—to earthquake-affected communities.
  2. To share the hope of the Gospel through tracts, personal conversations, and small home-based gatherings.
***

Areas of Focus

  • Geographic Target: Mandalay City and Singkaing Township, including surrounding villages and outskirts.
  • Beneficiaries: Families affected by the earthquake, particularly those with no access to aid.
***

Activities

  • Distribution of Aid: Deliver essential supplies such as rice, drinking water, canned food, rain covers, and tents. Medical kits will also be provided.
  • Gospel Outreach: Distribute Gospel tracts alongside the aid packages. Engage in one-on-one conversations and house-to-house visits to share the message of Jesus. When possible, short, simple meetings will be held in homes before giving aid to offer prayer and encouragement.
***

Expected Impact

  • Hundreds of individuals will receive essential supplies in a time of crisis.
  • Many will hear the Gospel in a personal and caring context.
  • Local believers will be encouraged and strengthened in their witness and ministry.
  • A visible testimony of Christ’s love will be demonstrated through action and word.

Implementation

The project will be carried out in close cooperation with trusted local Christians who are already active in the affected areas. Food and supplies will be purchased locally and distributed directly to those in need. Evangelism will be carried out in a relational, personal way—always with sensitivity and love.

Conclusion

In a time of great loss and suffering, this initiative brings both physical and spiritual help to hurting communities. It is an opportunity to reflect the compassion of Christ in a tangible way and to sow seeds of hope that point to eternal life.
